HURINET-U ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The AGM is a forum where HURINET-U members meet to review the operations of the secretariat for the previous year and plan for the following year. These forums are organized by the secretariat and attended by participants from Member Organizations, HURINET-U Board Members, Development partners and Staff. Elections for the new board usually takes place every after three years. This Year’s 28th AGM was on 28th July 2017 at the Secretariat.

Popularization of the National Housing policy

HURINET-U in Partnership with Water Aid Uganda & the Ministry of Lands, Housing & Urban Development Popularised the Simplified Version of National Housing Policy.

The National Housing Policy is primarily based on the right to adequate housing which is a human right that every Ugandan is entitled to. The realization of the right to housing contributes to the economic, social and cultural rights that can be traced in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948; the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, 1966; the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights (1986); and in the Treaty for the Establishment of the East African Community, 1999 at the regional Level, all of which, Uganda is a signatory.

The housing sector has in the past faced challenges some of which include: lack of specific and clear Policy, legal and institutional framework on housing development. Read more
